How does pearl dental's membership plan differ from other insurance companies and How will i benefit from it?
Pearl Dental is in network with various insurance companies for dental coverage. With having the ability to work with these companies, we were able to see the decline in good coverage for our patients' oral health needs. We watched as many insurance companies placed downgrades on procedures so they didn't have to pay as much for the procedure or pay anything at all. We saw them place clauses on procedures that were needed before 12 months of gaining the insurance, which made the patient pay in full for the treatment needed. We witnessed insurance companies audit their system and realize they paid too much for a procedure one year ago-then asked for a portion of the money back from our dental office which in return made the patient have to pay on a procedure again that they had completed one year ago!
We hear how patients are paying high premiums for basic dental care or limited plan coverage. We saw the need to construct a membership plan that would benefit and help our patients maintain proper oral health without the hassle or worry if it would be covered at a certain percentage or covered at all. We know the importance of oral health and the importance of caring properly for our patients, we want our patients to see the importance as well and created the Pearl Dental Membership Plan to maintain and promote good oral health.

How will i know which plan to pick?
Before signing up for one of the plans, you will complete a comprehensive exam with the doctor, assistant and hygienist. During this appointment you will receive a full series of x-rays, a detailed exam with the Doctor, and a full mouth probe with the hygienist. The probe determines the health of the gums, the height of the bone and any bleeding points. This determines your cleaning status. The numbers you will hear will be 1-3 are healthy gums, 4 is a watch area with any signs of active infection (ie: bleeding, discharge or mobility), 5 and above we are treating for active periodontal disease.
what is the difference between the Prophy plan and the periodontal health plan?
Periodontal disease is described as an infection around the structure of the teeth, including the gums, cementum that covers the root, the periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone. The infection is created by the bacteria found in your saliva and the plaque that forms on your teeth. This can spread below the gum line in an area your toothbrush cannot reach. With this not being removed, the plaque continues to grow and your gums become more inflamed causing early stages of Periodontal disease called Gingivitis. Gingivitis causes pocketing between the tooth and the gums and allows bacteria to harbor and rapidly grown in this pocket. This makes your cleaning turn into a more in depth cleaning to make sure the pockets are fully clean. Most patients whom have periodontal disease are recommended to be seen more frequently than every 6 months to be sure the plaque is removed from the pocketing areas.
A preventative Prophylaxes cleaning is described as a polish on the tooth surface and removal of plaque above the gum line. This is stating there is no pocketing around the tooth structure, you have healthy gum tissue and adequate bone levels.

why is fluoride needed or recommended?
Fluoride is needed to strengthen and protect the enamel layer of the tooth. This allows the decay to have a harder time reaching the dentin of the tooth, which is much softer than the enamel layer. Fluoride can be found in your drinking water and over the counter toothpaste. It is a mineral, not a medication. Over the counter toothpaste has a recommended amount of Fluoride of 0.7 parts per million, same as your Fluorinated drinking water. Many studies have been done on the importance of fluoride and what can happen if it is not part of your daily routine. One study showed that drinking fluorinated water, using fluoride toothpaste and fluoride applications at a dental visit as a young child were less likely to lose teeth 40-50 years later.
what type of x-rays will i receive throughout the membership and why are they needed?
Our initial x-rays that we capture will be the Full Mouth Series or FMX. This series allows us to see the root tips of all the teeth to monitor for any signs of infection or abnormalities around the tooth structure. It allows us to see the front teeth as well as to monitor infection and decay in between the teeth. This series also has the bitewings that look in between the teeth for decay. This series is rotated every 3 years with the Panoramic image that captures the TMJ area, the sinus cavity, the upper arch bone, the jaw bone, and below the jaw bone for any abnormalities. The bitewing series that looks for decay in between the teeth will be taken yearly.
