Care
While many treatments require no follow up care, some treatments require special care, as outlined below. These are guidelines, and are not a substitute for professional dental care. If you're experiencing extreme pain or discomfort, you should call our office right away at 320-654-9999
- Diet and Eating: Any pain or discomfort should subside in a few hours to few days, and should not be severe. You may be sensitive to sweets and temperature changes, which will also diminish quickly. Avoid hard foods such as meats and raw vegetables, and extreme temperatures, like cold and hot drinks. Acetaminophen or a non-aspirin analgesic may be taken to reduce discomfort.
- Oral Hygiene: Slight bleeding may occur for several days; brush slowly and gently. Mouth rinsing with an anti microbal rinse or a warm saline solution is recommended for one to two consecutive weeks.
- Immediately following the procedure: Please do not chew on the crown for the 24 hours following the procedure, while the cement hardens.
- Sensitivity: It will be normal for the nerve in your tooth to be sensitive to heat and cold. If however, you experience throbbing of the tooth or pain when chewing, call us. There is a possibility that the nerve has been affected and that a root treatment is necessary.
- Fit and comfort: Though we have exercised great care to fit the crown for your bite, teeth are sensitive to very small changes in bite. If your bite is uncomfortable, please call so we can adjust the crown.
- Diet and Eating: Avoid chewing excessively sticky or very hard foods such as candy and ice with the crown.
- Oral hygiene: The area where the crown meets the natural tooth is prone to decay, s maintain vigorous oral hygiene in the area including daily brushing and flossing.
